Are plump lips like Kylie Jenner’s really worth the hassle? Recently, the world of Instagram was flooded with photos of young girls trying to achieve the same look as Kylie Jenner by sucking into the tops of water bottles or through any small circular object. What many of those girls didn’t realize was that this is extremely damaging to their lips! You can actually destroy many of the blood vessels within your lips by doing this—leaving them bruised and swollen!
Why is it that so many girls risk their own health for silly fads? Much of it has to do with social media. Social media plays a huge role when it comes to peer pressure! Thousands of girls participated in this dangerous trend just to try and look like a 17 year old TV star, and many young girls only decided to try this “lip-plumping” trick because everyone around them was doing it as well.
We can never know what is going on in someone else’s head, but we can guess that many girls think, “If the famous Kylie Jenner got tons of attention by making her lips bigger, maybe it will work for me!” Wrong! There are a slew of reasons why Kylie Jenner is famous, not the least of which is that she was born into a famous family.
Peer pressure is tough to fight. That’s why it’s called pressure! If you are faced with a situation where you feel as though you are being peer pressured, here are some things you can think about:
- Am I comfortable doing the things they’re asking me to do?
- Am I going to feel any better after doing what they’re asking me to do?
- Do I really want to do this?
- What could be some possible consequences for my actions?
- Is it possible that through these actions, I could be hurting someone else, or
Remember, if the girls who are pressuring you are your real friends, why would they want you to do something you aren’t comfortable with? Real friends want you to be safe and healthy. Be happy with who you are—you don’t need to change a thing about yourself just to be like someone else. You are beautiful!
“Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself and the right people will love the real you.”
